The sanctions are expected to exacerbate existing economic hardships for Iranians, who are already grappling with high inflation. A local source, speaking anonymously, described the situation as dire, with many individuals purchasing food and medicine on credit and facing shortages of essential medications like insulin.

CANADA’S RETALIATORY TARRIFFS
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that Canada would impose retaliatory tariffs on U.S. imports, starting September 8th, in response to the Trump administration’s 50% tariffs on Canadian goods. These tariffs followed the collapse of trade negotiations between the two countries. Carney asserted that the U.S. is increasingly seen as an unreliable economic partner, and Canada will defend its economic interests.

The State Department had previously halted immigrant visas for individuals from countries including Afghanistan, Brazil, and Yemen.
